The Academy Awards 2014

The 86th annual Academy Awards were last night and though the live red carpet coverage was a huge disappointment–seriously E! what happened?!– the fashion on said carpet was not.

Olivia Wilde in Valentino and Jason Sudekis in Prada.
The couple showed why they were among the cutest of the night! How adorable is Jason taking a minute to admire and take a picture of his girl on the carpet?

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior.
My queen had everyone bowing down last night when she showed up in this red peplum gown. The princess seams made the dress fit like a glove, her hair was styled to perfection and her jewelry was simple and elegant. If you know me you know I love a necklace worn to the back and this is her second time doing it, with a $2 million Neil Lane necklace no less.

Here she is at the Vanity Fair's Oscar After Party in Tom Ford.
It was a great change to see her out of Dior for once!

Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace.
Stunning is an understatement. Jaws were on the ground when she stepped out of her car last night. The color, shape, texture and cape couldn't be more flattering or fierce.
Seriously, I want a cape. Now.

Best Actress Oscar winner Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive.
I think this gown looks better on TV than in photographs. It's the movement and sparkle that adds to the beauty.

Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein.
This is my Top 3 Best Dressed of the night. I've been obsessing over all white outfits recently and this look is no exception. Her necklace was bold, yet simple and complemented her look rather than over powered it.

Charlize Theron in Dior.
The other face of Dior, Charlize looked amazing in this structured gown. Don't let her fool you–there are nude shoulder straps attached. The neckline on this gown is sexy and elegant. Her $15 million dollars worth of diamonds doesn't hurt the look, either.

Emma Watson in Vera Wang.
Another star following the black dress trend, this two toned gown was as beautiful as the girl wearing it. The red lip popped against her pale skin and dark dress. We also can't stop thinking of her and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a couple after seeing them present together.

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen.
The first of many navy gowns of the night. This look was classy and sophisticated and the draping was very flattering. Her hair and make up combo was one of my favorites of the night.

Amy Adams in Gucci.
Navy is the perfect color for her poorly styled red hair and creamy skin. Tiffany jewels completed the look. Sometimes less really is more with this A-Lister. This is the first time this season that she deviated from her 70's inspired looks. She said she wanted to do something that felt like her and that she would be comfortable in. We love her decision!

Lady Gaga in Versace.
Thought I am not sure why Mother Monster was on the red carpet because she didn't actually go into the Dolby Theatre to watch the show, but rather watched it with her Godchildren's father Elton John at his annual Oscar viewing party, I was more than happy to see her there. She is the face of Versace and represented the brand wonderfully in this light, airy pink gown. I could've done without the scarf, but whatcha gonna do?

Lupita Nyong'o in custom Prada.
The movement and color of the dress are beautiful, but I can't help but hate the headband. She doesn't have any hair! It doesn't make sense and the band takes away from her beautiful mini ear cuffs. The Oscar winner also gave a memorable heartfelt acceptance speech: "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."

Jessica Biel in Chanel Haute Couture.
Dripping in Tiffany diamonds, this shimmery nude gown was a red carpet dream. I also think this was a gown that wasn't done justice in photographs. I also think I would have rather seen her husband–OUCH!, it still pains me to say that word–Justin Timberlake escort her down the carpet, but I may be biased, so whatever. Her look was effortless and chic.

Portia de Rossi in Naeem Khan.
Wife of host Ellen DeGeneres, Portia was a show stopper in this gown. She was one of the first to arrive on the carpet and it was a great start to the night. On trend in white and flawless hair and make up.

Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka.

Let's hear it for the boys!
The men have really stepped up their game this awards season. From textures, patterns and colors, they are taking more risks than ever and I have no complaints.
Zac Efron in Calvin Klein.
His pants may be a little too short, but with a face like that, we'll forgive him.

Leonardo DiCaprio in Armani.
He may have not won the Oscar, but he does top my Best Dressed list in this navy suit.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Calvin Klein Collection and his company Hit RECord's logo button.

Jared Leto in Saint Laurent.
He did the cream jacket the best way of the night. I wish it would have been a black shirt underneath, or maybe a duller-white shirt, but the red bow tie and diamond buttons on his shirt make this look just as perfect as his ombre hair.

Kevin Spacey in Burberry.
Most men have been doing just a navy jacket with black pants, but the House of Cards star chose to go all the way with this look.

Matthew McConaughey in Dolce & Gabbana.
This now-Oscar-winning star has been one of my favorite men of the season, and last night was no different.

Well, that's it. Award season has come to an end. The emptiness has already taken over and I am unsure what there is to look forward to now. Thanks for sticking with me through the season! Until next year, kiddies.

Ellen DeGeneres Wins Oscars 2014

Last night the 86th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Host Ellen DeGeneres didn't have very big shoes to fill after last year's host Seth MacFarlane open the show with the "We Saw Your Boobs" song. Her sarcastic, sassy, sometimes dead pan, sometimes conceited humor was perfection.

She opened the night with a comment about the rain LA has seen the past few days: "For those of you watching us around the world, it’s been a tough couple of days for us. It has been raining. We’re fine – thank you for your prayers."

My friends could not stop laughing at her opening monologue. She was hilarious!  Not all of the funniest lines are listed, but here are a few of my favorites:

  • “Things are so different now. Last time, for instance, when I was here Cate Blanchett was nominated, Meryl Streep was nominated, Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated, Martin Scorsese was nominated. So different.”

  • “I’m not saying that movies are the most important thing in the world, because we all know that the most important thing in the world is youth.”

  • “I think you should think of yourselves as winners. Not all of you, but the people who have won before should think of yourselves as winners.”

  • “Who are we kidding? It’s the Hunger Games. I mean, there are cameras everywhere, you’re starving, Jennifer Lawrence won last year.”

  • On Jennifer Lawrence's infamous fall at last year's Oscars, Ellen said she wasn't going to bring up what happened, then proceeded to tell the room exactly what had happened and said she had a clip. She went on to say, “If you win tonight, I think we should bring you the Oscar.”

  • “I’m not going to say who looks the most beautiful, but it’s clear. It’s Jared Leto. I mean, he’s the prettiest. Boy is he pretty." We couldn't. agree. more. Moment of silence for the fact that he is 42 years old, not 27-28 like I thought... Oops. That hair though... I mean... C'mon...

  • She called out Jonah Hill and said, “You showed us something in that film that I have not seen for a very, very long time.” Referring to his character flashing his. ahem, manhood, in The Wolf of Wall Street.

  • And one of my favorite OMG moments: “We should get started. It’s going to be an exciting night. Anything can happen, so many different possibilities. Possibility number one: 12 Years a Slave wins best picture. Possibility number two: You’re all racists. And now please welcome our first white presenter, Anne Hathaway.”

One of the funniest parts was her frequent audience interaction and live-tweeting of the ceremony. Whether the frequent selfies were her idea or amazing product placement for Samsung, I do not know, but I do know that they made me laugh way too hard.

Her first selfie of the night was her on stage looking at the crowd.

"@theellenshow: #oscars #blessed #blurry"

After a montage of animation films ("The Incredibles," "ParaNorman," etc.), Ellen simply said: "Anyone feel that was a little light on 'Finding Nemo?'" L.O.L.

At one point in the show, she asked if anyone would want pizza if she ordered it. A few hands were raised and later on a pizza man showed up with 3 large pizzas and passed it around amongst the A-listers in the first few rows.

While he passing out the slices Ellen said, “I don’t have any money. Sandy [Sandra Bullock] you have money. You got a lot of money. Where is Harvey Weinstein? Harvey?" She later passed around Pharrell's infamous hat and asked celebrities for money to pay for the pizza. Weinstein gave $200, Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey also gave some cash and Lupita gave Ellen her lip gloss.

At one point during the show she gathered a dozen of my favorite celebrities, except Lupita Nyong'o's brother because I am still unsure of how he weaseled himself into this gem, and had Bradley Cooper snap the picture. It immediately crashed Twitter, or in Ellen's words, "broke Twitter," and now holds the record for most retweets at well over 2 million RTs. (President Obama held the record before at almost 800,000 with a tweet about his re-election.)
"@TheEllenShow: If only Bradley's arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars"

And if that wasn't enough, she dressed up as Glenda the Good Witch in honor of The Wizard of Oz's anniversary. She sighed and said, "Not cool guys."

These jokes were only the tip of the iceberg, but I simply don't want to try to jam all of them in one post! Which one-liner made you laugh the hardest?

Scott Eastwood

Happy Friday, dear readers! In order to help you get through the last few hours of work, class or whatever it is you may be doing, I've brought a little eye candy to MMFH.

I thought you might be growing tired of looking at size 0 models and they're unrealistically long, skinny legs, so I'm bringing you something better: a scruffy, sexy man. (which may be just as unrealistic for most of us, and for that I am almost sorry.)

Scott Eastwood, son to Clint Eastwood and not to be confused with Ian Eastwood, is an up-and-coming actor who just got back from London where he was shooting a WWII film Fury. He was, not surprisingly, featured in Town & Country's February 2014 "Top 50 Bachelors" issue. He became the topic of conversation for all Sunday brunches after modeling shirtless in T&C for sportswear in October 2013. He told the mag, "I want to be a man's man, not a glitzy pop star." We have no problem with that. Manly, rugged, we're picturing him as very Chris Hemsworth-esque, but that might be because we just love picturing Chris Hemsworth...

Here are a few shots from the spread.
If this doesn't make you want to set sail, I don't know what will.

Oh, these photos weren't enough to have you grabbing a tissue to wipe the drool off your keyboard? Well then here are a few more of his most recent spread in Man of the World Magazine.

Man of the World

Man of the World

Man of the World

Now that you've spent 10 minutes dreaming about your hands on that stubble, pick up your jaw, put on your best outfit and hit the town with your friends to see if you can find your own bachelor! If you already have a man, hide his razor, buy him some hair wax and ask if you can slick his hair back. Like Cady told Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls, "Your hair looks sexy pushed back." And if your man is already rocking the 5 o'clock shadow and knows the value of good hair product, run and give him a kiss because you've already won!

Have a great weekend, lovelies.

Dolce & Gabbana Collection Review Milan Fashion Week 2014

"Enchanted Sicily" was the title Dolce & Gabbana gave their Fall 2014 collection. With an enchanted forest in the background, snow swirling around and Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" playing, the mood was set for a magical show.

The collection was filled with embroidered pieces and various styles of appliqués just like previous collections, but this time with a twist. I couldn't help but think my favorite fairy would be a great asset to the show, a gothic Tinkerbell. The only thing missing from the show was pixie dust! Thankfully the design duo made up for lack of loose glitter and ended the show with an army of fairies all wearing the most beautiful black and silver mini dresses.

The show started out a little folky with woodland creatures like foxes and owls stitched onto cloaks and dresses. Some looks had a baroque feel with their heavy gold detailing and mix of dark colors and floral/royal prints. From Snow White to Knights in shining armor to Tinkerbell this collection was sent from an enchanted heaven and I can't get enough of it.

A Rose By Any Other Name..

I've been on a hiatus, but I'm bringing it back. I'm talking about rose water, kiddies, and it's time you jump on this bandwagon if you have yet to do so.

I was a loyal user my freshman year and lost my way after I started my sophomore year. Maybe it was because I constantly felt dirty in my dorm room and once I moved out I lost interest in the refreshing spritz? There's really no excuse for why I discontinued using rose water, but I'm here to say I'm back in the game.

Rose water has many uses: cleanser, toner, astringent and moisturizer. It also is refreshing and rejuvenating and is a great pick-me-up whether it's in the morning, mid-day or before a night out on the town.

I used to use the organic rose water sold at Target. It was $8 and it worked wonders. I would keep half in the bottle it came in and transfer the other half into a spray bottle. After washing my face at night and before putting make up on in the morning, I would pour some on a cotton ball and rub it over my face to get rid of left over dirt and oil. After a long day of class and walking in the Carolina heat, I would spray my face before a much-anticipated nap. I would also use it as a natural perfume. We all love the smell of roses, right? A little spritz on my neck and in my hair would keep any hint of sweat down to a minimum. Did I mention the Carolina heat? It's "Famously Hot" for a reason here, people.

Though I've never tried it, rose water is said to be a great natural conditioner for your hair. Mix it in with your shampoo to enhance hair growth.

Add some to your bath water to hydrate and freshen up your skin. The smell will also linger in your house all day! Who doesn't love that? I've recently put a bowl of rose buds on my desk for the scent...and because they look adorable and I'm a sucker for roses, so what?

Apply it directly to dark under eye circles. This should lighten the area while decreasing puffiness. We could all use this trick during finals week!

The polar/arctic vortex is upon us, so the time couldn't be more perfect to get ahold of this product. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps soothe your dry, irritated skin that can result from being in the cold for too long. This also makes it the perfect toner!

And if you needed more reasons to use rose water, I'll give you two more: you can spray it on your linens to freshen up your home, and you can keep some in the kitchen to add to your favorite yogurt. I know you're sick of eating that plain-could-possibly-be-sour-cream Greek yogurt. I know you are. Seriously, I know you are. Add a little rose water, and honey!, to the mix to give this snack a little help. You know it needs it. Seriously, you know it needs it.

Here are a few to keep your eyes out for:

The possibilities are endless. You can even make your own if you feel up to it. Now go! What are you doing?! Go to the nearest drug store and buy some!
